U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin is the overwhelming Democratic choice for the U.S. Senate in 2024, while ex-Detroit Police Chief James Craig leads in the Republican race, according to polls by the Lansing-based Target Insyght.
The polls, commissioned by MIRS news and the Northern Michigan Chamber Alliance, show Slotkin with 65 percent support and Craig leading ex-Congressman Mike Rogers 33 to 20 percent, according to a report by MIRS.
The polls were taken of Democrat and Republican groups for the primary.
On the Republican side, the GOP poll shows ex-U.S. Rep. Peter Meijer of the Meijer department and grocery store family with 11 percent and business executive Sandy Pensler with 2 percent. Board of Education member Nikki Snyder and Laingsburg business executive Michael Hoover are both at 1 percent.
On the Democratic side, the poll found actor, businessman and community activist Hill Harper at 7 percent, former state Rep. Leslie Love at 2 percent and Southeast Michigan business executive Nasser Beydoun at 0%.
