The Detroit News reports:

Owner Chuck Roy, who says he's owned the building for 32 years and opened the Cass Cafe nearly 29 years ago, said the future of the restaurant is "up in the air."

"Anything is on the table," he said, adding that his desire to retire, it being the slow summer months and the difficult climate for restaurants as factors in closing.

"We will keep our commitments, we have some in September," he added. "Dally in the Alley is in September so we may open for that."

The restaurant welcomed artists of all sorts, and would sometimes serve as a special-events venue, hanging work on the walls or hosting performance events. It carried vegetarian and vegan menu options long before they were popular, The News notes.
